Vincent Gagnon's music relies on acoustic instruments, with interactive improvisation adding lustre and fluidity to the streamlined melodies of these original compositions. To help make this dream album a reality, Gagnon called upon long-time associates and pillars of the Québec City jazz scene Guillaume Bouchard (double bass), François Côté (drums), Alain Boies (saxophones), and Michel Côté (saxophone, bass clarinet, maïkotron). The solid and ever-inventive musicians perform original music by Gagnon, Boies and Bouchard with brilliance and grace. Bleu cendre lies at the crossroads of acoustic jazz and impressionism, with lilting and slightly twisted melodies giving way to the improvisational flourish for which the quintet is famous.
