"Listening to Simon Legault, one is reminded of the classicism of Jim Hall. When he takes on the lyrical and electric style of Hall or Scofield, his playing suggests Pat Metheny's. Legault's ability to create melody or improvisation with an economy of effort recalls the immensely talented Elek Bacsik, that enigmatic performer who recorded with Serge Gainsbourg and others; Kurt Rosenwinkel and Michael Felderbaum also come to mind. Using only a few notes, Legault creates phrases which are simple but endued with a remarkable intensity. This simplicity is deliberate, and his flights of lyricism are tempered with restrained virtuosity."
