Montréal pianist Yves Léveillé presents his fifth album on Effendi Records, in a new formation: piano duo.
During his residency at the Studio du Québec à New York in 2004, Yves Léveillé met Japanese pianist Eri Yamamoto, a well-known figure on the New York jazz scene. After subbing for her on a few occasions with her jazz trio (the house trio at Arthur’s Tavern),  Yves decided to invite the pianist to play in Montréal with his own sextet. This set the stage for the creation of an unusual and quite original formation: two pianos with instrumental ensemble.
The experience proved a resounding success, and so the pair decided to record an album of music for two pianos. The perfect chemistry between the two artists shines through in every one of these original compositions by both pianists.
This is only the latest of many musical collaborations for the Québec pianist, who has already worked with a number of internationally renowned artists. Léveillé and Yamamoto have also joined San Francisco saxophonist Paul McCandless on stage several times, forming an outstanding trio who will no doubt be performing together again on numerous occasions in the near future.
