In composing the eleven pieces on this new album, Karl Jannuska sought to create a specific atmosphere and “colour” for each of them. Treating each part as a canvas of multiple forms and orchestrations, he approached the music like a visual artist using an array of textures to enhance a painting’s composition.
This recording covers a broad range of emotions from joy (Greased Pig Scramble) to melancholy (A Whiter Christmas). Some cuts were inspired by places the Canadian drummer has been to (Pisew Falls is a waterfall in northern Manitoba), or by people who have influenced his work (K-Day was written for Keith Jarrett) . Together, these multicoloured musical portraits make up a joyful, dynamic and melodic modern jazz album...
