Self-taught on jazz piano, he has later studied with some big names: Irène Schweizer, Markus Bischof, Christoph Baumann, Vince Benedetti, Art Lande, Jean-Christophe Cholet and Fred Hersch. In 1996 he won two prices, best band and best soloist, at the Zollikon Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The two first recordings of the quintet, Give me five (Outside Music/Unit Records, 2007) and Baiji (Justin Time Rercords/EMI, 2008), were very well received on both sides of the Atlantic. Stüssi regularly returns to Europe where he has collaborated, among others, with Bruno Spoerri, saxophonist and pioneer of electronic music, trombonist Nils Wogram, and Jürg Wickihalder, saxophone. In Canada, Stüssi also writes for a very dynamic trio which he has formed with Daniel Lessard on bass and Pierre Tanguay on drums.
His projects are being supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and Musicaction.
