BIOGRAPHY

Originally from Ottawa, Frank Lozano began his musical studies at Humber College in Toronto with Pat LaBarbera, then in Boston with tenor giant Jerry Bergonzi. In 1990, following a tour of Czechoslovakia with Toronto’s Sound Image Theater, Frank moved to Montreal where he joined the Bernard Primeau Ensemble. This led to a CD release - Detour - and a tour of France with special guest Slide Hampton.

Frank Lozano has played across Canada in all the major jazz festivals, from St.John Nfld to Dawson City, Yk. Among the many musicians he has worked with, he has played and/or recorded with Tito Puente, Oliver Jones, Michel Donato, Donny McCaslin, Karen Young, Jean Derome and David Binney. He is a member of Thom Gossage Other Voices, Josh Rager Sextet, Effendi Jazzlab , Alain Béadard Auguste Quartet and Isaiah Ceccarelli Ensemble but to name a few.
In 2006, Frank was awarded the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Quebec’s Soho studio Residence Grant where he spent six months practicing and composing. Upon his return, he recorded his first Cd as leader of the FrankLozanoGroup - Colour Fields, with Jim Lewis on trumpet, Kim Ratcliffe on guitar, John Geggie on Bass and Jean Martin on drums ; album released in Fall 2007 on Effendi Records.
