BIOGRAPHY

Jazz Culture Club was formed in 2006.At the time, the group’s four Québec City-born members were all music students at Laval University.Guitarist François Rioux and saxophonist Alexandre Dion had played as a duo for a couple of years when they were joined by bassist David Gagné and drummer Pierre-Emmanuel Beaudoin.
That same year the quartet entered the Québec City Jazz Festival’s young artists competition. They brought home First Prize, and were invited to appear several times at the festival. This success prompted the group (particularly François Rioux) to begin composing their own material. Two years later the group repeated the exploit in Montréal,winning First Prize at Jazz en Rafale’s 2008 Jupiter-Vandoren New Talent Contest. The prize included a professional recording of their debut album, sponsored by Jupiter-Vandoren and the Effendi Records label. The four musicians’ newly enhanced reputation promptly opened doors at both the Montréal International Jazz Festival and the Québec City Jazz Festival, and allowed them to obtain corporate contracts, notably at the Québec City convention center. The group still performs regularly in Québec City area bars and clubs.
