CALL TO ALL
In a positive vision of development and for the future of Quebec jazz, based on the reality of the Quebec market and by extension of the Canadian market, linked to jazz, Effendi is looking for advisors, collaborators and mecenes to support the special projects of Quebec artists.
Thus Effendi wishes to set up a unique model of "international development" for Québec jazz musicians.
Since there are no concrete projects to promote EXPORT and / or EXPORT projects that can promote and transport Quebec jazz to other horizons, Effendi would like to design, with interested collaborators, a structure with a unique dimension in the musical landscape Québécois which could thus become an essential reference in order to set up mechanisms for exporting to foreign countries for jazz musicians here.
The special mission (title to be determined) would be to create a Quebec jazz industry, for the development of its artists to the international.
For nearly 20 years, the Effendi label has initiated, promoted, facilitated and propelled the career of many Quebec artists (recognized and / or emerging artists) internationally. So dozens of artists have benefited from its accompaniment. Unfortunately, for the past 4 or 5 years, with the abolition of several government programs and especially since the record has lost its share of profitability in the last 2 years, aids and money are rare to support the influence of Québec jazz artists to the majority of international markets, including: European countries, Scandinavia, the United States and especially to the new international markets with very high development potential: South American countries, Mexico and presumably Asian countries: Japan, South Korea and China.
Québec jazz artists have enormous potential, and most of all, they are of international caliber. Find dates are ok ... but finding the financial means, to promote them and to succeed in making them turn, is a perpetual challenge.
The accompaniment of Québec jazz artists to the international scene is crucial today, as the Quebec and Canadian market is not really exciting for them. The territory is vast, there are few festivals, few jazz clubs, few medium and large rooms interested, road transport is long, air transport is very expensive and wages are ridiculously low.
So when you look closely at the situation of each stage of an artist's development both at the national level (outside Québec) and internationally, strategies are often flouted:
The REALITY - today, after 20 years of Effendi's efforts to encourage governments to implement permanent development tools, to foreign markets (mentioned here), little has been done to encourage, support and respond to the needs of producers, agents and / or artists related to Quebec jazz.
So here's a call to all!
Let's open the doors...
To all those who are sensitive to this cause, please express your opinions and write your comments.
If you want to show any interest of support and / or help (of all kinds), do not hesitate to contact me at Effendi.

Emie R Roussel Trio, new cd to come
During the past two years, the Trio has had the privilege of presenting their music in eleven countries on four continents. The time spent together discovering other cultures during these trips deeply impacted and inspired the Trio, who are back with a whole new level of complicity and mutual understanding on their new album, Intersections. The hard-won musical cohesion of the group’s three members puts a particular spotlight on groove and melody via a sound at times more acoustic, at others more electric. On their respective journeys, the members of the group had the chance to cross paths with musicians who affected them tremendously. This inspired the idea to bring together the evolving musical universe of the Trio with the influences of three special guests, for each of whom was written a unique composition that would best benefit from their collaboration. Thus the album consists of seven tunes as a trio, and three as a quartet, presenting in their turn Guadeloupean singer and songwriter Malika Tirolien, Canadian/New-Zealand trumpeter Lex French, and Canadian bassist Norman Lachappelle. These precious shared moments, and each member's creativity, meet at the crossroads of their respective paths, the intersections of their musical odysseys…

Yves Léveillé septet concert and CD launch "Essences des bois"
On February 26th at the famed Cabaret du Lion d'or, wil be the concert and CD launch of Essences des bois by the Yves Léveillé septet. Here is how the composer describes the genesis of this one of a kind esthetic offering:
"With this project, I wanted to get out of known musical paths by putting woodwinds at the forefront and avoiding the habitual use of brass which often predominates in jazz. I wanted energetic and tonic woodwinds without neglectinc their sultry nature. It is with a set of seven musicians coming from the jazz world (Yves Leveille Quartet) and classical world that we took up the challenge. The supple interpretation of the jazzmen combined with the refinement of the musicians accustomed to classical and contemporary repertoire gave a surprising result, all in delicacy. I am very proud of the outcome of this artistic endeavour."

Concert and CD Launch - "Tome III Errances" by Vincent Gagnon
On Tome III Errances, Vincent Gagnon’s third album is a mélange of live jazz and romance that inspires impressionistic lyrical landscapes to be painted on the imagination.
Recorded during three concerts at Palais Montcalm in 2013, Errrances immerses listeners in a universe molded by poetry and inspired by nocturnal scenes of St-Petersburg, Asuncion, Lausanne and Quebec City. This is music that is mind-expanding and exciting, rich in emotion and improvisation, yet uncomplicated in composition.
This jazz rendez-vous will begin by a conference given by radio MC Stanley Péan whose words will be musically illustrated by the Vincent Gagnon Quartet. The captivating radio host of the daily "Quand le jazz est là" wil speak about different jazz styles.
CD launch and Concert February 13th at 8pm
L'Anglicane 31, rue Wolfe, Vieux-Lévis

"Chercher l'équilibre" figures in Le Devoir's top 5 jazz album released in 2014
"The québécois album: Cherchez l'équilibre, of Trio Jérôme Beaulieu, on Effendi. Following the same footsteps as Esbjörn Svensson or Ethan Iverson, Jérôme Beaulieu directs a trio that inspires itself from the actual pop-rock culture. Good rhythmic foundation, beautiful melodic impulses, strong harmonic progressions: Beaulieu and his band hit hard. And well."
Guillaume Bourgault-Côté, Le Devoir, 27 décembre 2013
